Psalm 103 is another well known Psalm that has become, as many well known things do, more of a memory to some people than the active and powerful Word that the Lord our God intended for it to be! Look at verses 1-5:
1 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits— 3 Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities, Who heals [each one of] all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy; 5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring]!
Some of us have this memorized and can recall it word for word! Memorization, however, will NOT get the word inside of us in the way that God intended so that we can walk in it, bringing Him glory as He is able to fulfill that Word in our lives! It is not "memorization", but "meditation" of the Word that will get it inside of us in the abundance that is necessary for us to walk in it with any type of powerful result! Look at Joshua 1:8:
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. AMP
Meditation involves coming to a greater understanding of the Word by reading, studying, pondering (thinking deeply about it), speaking it to yourself and discussing it with others of like-minded faith! When we meditate on His Word, Holy Spirit will cause the understanding to come so that we can put it into practice right away! When we do what God wants in God's way, and for the same reason that He wants it done, then we CANNOT fail! AMEN! It has never been the will of God that only a certain few in the ministry can know and understand the Word of God! He desires that ALL people will come to know Him, but it is only the born again believers who can understand the Word at all! 1 Corinthians 2:14:
But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.
Being born again is the prerequisite for understanding the Word of God because the Spirit of God, Who is our Teacher, indwells every born again believer! Being filled with Holy Spirit increases our capacity for understanding! The next requirement for understanding is a hunger for it! Do YOU desire to know Him and His Word more? Then schedule time specifically for study and meditation. Get yourself into a good, Scriptural local church that teaches the Word of God! THAT is God's will for you (Hebrews 10:25)! As Holy Spirit makes the Word clear to you, begin to put it into practice! Being a DOER of the Word increases our understanding immensely (James 1:22-25)! I pray that each one of you will develop a burning desire to know HIM more (Philippians 3:10 AMP) and that you will refuse to be satisfied, but will continue to learn more each day!
