Today I want to look at one verse in particular. I have been hearing a lot of people coming out against ministries that teach the Biblical principles concerning financial prosperity. They speak with such harsh terms about those ministries and use a lot of "spiritual sounding" phrases, but they are dead wrong! I desire that YOU should know the Truth! Remember that Jesus said this in John 8:31-32:
31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. 32 And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. AMP
So, to get to the TRUTH about Godly financial prosperity, we are going to begin today with 3 John 2:
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. KJV
We will look at some of these words to see exactly what the Holy Spirit, through the writings of the apostle John, was trying to get us to see! First of all, the word "wish" is the Greek word "euchomai", which means: to pray. The phrase "may prosper" is the Greek word "euodoo", which means: help on the road, succeed in reaching, succeed in business, to grant a prosperous and expeditious journey. The phrase "even as" is the Greek word "kathos", which means: according as, just as, in proportion as, the degree that. So, what GOD is saying is that it is HIS perfect will that we walk in an a place of financial prosperity that enables us to complete our journey here on earth without being held back by anyone or anything! He is also saying that we will walk in that level of prosperity, in every area, to the proportion that are souls (mind, emotions and will) are doing well or succeeding in thinking like HIM! The Amplified Bible says it well!
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers. AMP
Besides this verse, there are many others that reveal HIS will in this matter! One of them is found here in Joshua 1:8 is a good place to start!
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. AMP
Do you see here that the God of the Bible desires for YOU to prosper? It will happen as your soul prospers by renewing your mind to think like Him by meditating on His Word! Then we also see in Deuteronomy 8:17-18:
17 And beware lest you say in your [mind and] heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth. 18 But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. AMP
God deeply desires that YOU prosper, by being in control and able to obey HIM in every area of your life, and it WILL happen as you make sure that you are prospering your soul (mind, emotions and will) by feeding and meditating on the Word of God! AMEN! Here is Hillsong Live with "Closer":
