Shalom,

Proverbs 29:23 says this:

23A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor.

"Pride" here is the Hebrew word "ga`avah". It means: arrogance, haughtiness, pride, swelling. Remember that this is the pride of MAN! It is having confidence in ourselves apart from God. There are many today who have turned away from the One, True, Most High, Living, Almighty God of the Bible and put their confidence in themselves! This verse says that this will "bring him low". This is the Hebrew word "shaphel", which means: to depress or sink; to humiliate; to bring down; to humble; to abase. The word "humble" in this verse is "shaphal", which is a form of the word "shaphel" from above. The difference between the two is that, where the previous person is one who thinks more highly of himself than he ought to and is brought down to size; this person realizes that they are nothing without God and they CHOOSE to submit to HIS authority. When WE choose to put ourselves under HIS authority, then HE is free to lift us up! The word "honor" here is the Hebrew word "kabowd", which means: splendor, copiousness, glory, honor, abundance, riches, dignity, reputation, reverence, wealth. Look at 1 Peter 5:6:

6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. NLT

It doesn't really COST to serve God, it PAYS, BIG TIME! Amen! Here is Hillsong United with "Like Incense/Sometimes By Step":

Shalom in Him!
