Shalom,

I want to look at some very powerful verses today that talk about Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One. The verses we will look at are found in the book of Isaiah:

Isaiah 53:4-5 (KJV)
4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The word "surely" in verse 4 is the Hebrew word "aken", which means: firmly, truly, certainly, indeed (strong assertive force). There is no doubt about it! Surely what? He (Jesus) has (already) "borne", which is the Hebrew word "nasa", which means: lifted, carried off, taken away. What has He taken away? Our "griefs", the Hebrew word "choliy", which means: malady, disease, sickness. Jesus also, according to Isaiah 53:4, "carried", which is the Hebrew word, "cabal", which means: to bear a load. What did He carry? He carried our "sorrows", the Hebrew word "mak'-ob", which means: pain (both physical and mental). In spite of all that, the Bible says, mankind thought that He was stricken and smitten of God because of what He said about Himself. The entire time he was going through all of that for US! For YOU and for ME!

Verse 5 says He was wounded for OUR "transgressions", the Hebrew word, "pesha", which means our sin and rebellion. He was "bruised", Hebrew word, "daka", which means beat to pieces! For what? For OUR "iniquities", Hebrew "avon":sin. The chastisement of OUR peace was upon Him and "with His stripes", Hebrew chabbuwrah: bruise, stripe, wound, blow, "we ARE healed", the Hebrew word "rapha", which means: mended, cured, healed, made whole. It is summed up, really, in the previous word, peace. That word is the Hebrew word "shalom", which we discussed in the first post on this blog. It means: completeness, safety, soundness, welfare, health, prosperity, peace. The Amplified Bible says this:

Isaiah 53:4-5 (Amplified)
4Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]
5But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

As you can see by these verses, Jesus has already paid the price for our complete and total health, healing, deliverance in every area of life! We will talk more tomorrow about how to take advantage of what Jesus has provided for us. In the meantime, meditate on these 2 verses over and over until they get inside of you!

Shalom in Him!
