John 8:31-32, from today's Spoken Word Bible Reading Plan, is a favorite of mine.
31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. 32 And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.
We must CHOOSE to be a disciple of JESUS! We make that choice when we make God's Word our final authority, and when we spend time in it, learning it, speaking it, and DOING it! That is what abiding means! We can only 'hold fast' to God's Word when we meditate on it (Joshua 1:8 AMPC), causing the understanding to come.
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. AMP
The promise of John 8:31-32 is so powerful, but it has often been misquoted. Many people will say "The truth will set you free." This is NOT accurate! It is only the Truth that you KNOW that will set you free and keep you free! So, put the Word of God as your #1 priority! THEN the understanding will come you will be able to act on it! AMEN!
