Shalom,

Jerry Savelle's devotional for today on his website is another very simple, yet completely profound principle that every born again believer should know and understand!

FORGET EGYPT

Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic (Numbers 11:4-5 NKJV).

When you are going through what feels like a wilderness experience, don’t make the mistake of “turning back to Egypt.” Instead, remember that God has something better for you ahead and keep pressing forward—regardless of the appeal of what lies behind you.

For the Israelites, Egypt had offered an abundant supply of fish, leeks, and onions. There was no threat of starvation. However, Egypt was a place of bondage for God’s people. Viewed from the wilderness, Egypt seemed to have its good points. In truth, it was nothing compared to the freedom and abundance that lay ahead in the promised land.

Israel had forgotten what it was like to be under bondage; they’d forgotten the misery of slavery. They were deceived when they thought of the seemingly good things they’d left behind in Egypt.

When you are going through a challenging time, don’t make the mistake of recalling your Egypt. God would not lead you away from something and have you walk through a desert just to lead you back from where you’d come. No, God leads you away because He has something far better ahead; He has a place of great freedom and abundance waiting for you.

Forget Egypt. Meditate on the promise of a good and spacious land flowing with milk and honey. Keep walking and stay focused. Trust God, and it won’t be long before you enter the good land He has prepared for you:

“For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills … a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you” (Deuteronomy 8:7, 9-10 NKJV).

Confession: I refuse to turn back to what lies behind. My God is a good God who is leading me to a place of total freedom and abundance. My trust is in God and my focus is on what lies ahead.

AMEN! It is very hard to believe that the Israelites would even consider going back to bondage in Egypt! After all of the persecution and hardship that they suffered, to so quickly turn on the very ones who delivered them! That just shows us how carnally minded we can become when we do not stay in intimate fellowship with HIM! Unless we make it a part of who we are everyday, we will very quickly slip back into the world's ways of "doing and being right" (Matthew 6:31-33)! Let's keep pressing on! Victory is ALWAYS ours IF we refuse to give up and quit! AMEN! Here is Hillsong with "Desert Song":

Shalom in Him!
