Shalom,

We begin in Proverbs today in our Bible Reading Plan. "Proverbs" is the Hebrew word "mashal". One of the definitions of this word is "a pithy maxim". "Pithy" means: precisely meaningful, forceful and brief. A "maxim" is: a brief expression of a general truth, principle, or rule of conduct. Quite an accurate description of what we find in the entire Book of Proverbs! Look at verses 1-6:

THE PROVERBS (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: That people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight, Receive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity, That prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth-- The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly]-- That people may understand a proverb and a figure of speech or an enigma with its interpretation, and the words of the wise and their dark sayings or riddles.

God WANTS us to understand Him through a thorough study and meditation of His Word! Joshua gives us the "formula" for successful study of the Word in Joshua 1:8:

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. AMP

The Holy Spirit, Who lives IN every born again believer, will teach us the Word and what it means to each of us individually! John 14:26:

26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you. AMP

Are YOU ready to begin a NEW and adventurous study of the Word of God? Then pay attention to Proverbs 1:7:

The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.

So, spend some time in His presence, giving Him praise, thanksgiving and worship. THEN you will be ready to gain a new and deeper understanding to the wonderful Word of the Living God! Here, to encourage you in this, is Hillsong with "Running":

Shalom in Him!
