I am still amazed at the number of believers who believe that someone can lose their salvation by sinning after the New Birth! We see this today in Romans 4 concerning Abraham, under the Old Covenant! Verses 22-25:
22 That is why his faith was credited to him as righteousness (right standing with God).23 But [the words], It was credited to him, were written not for his sake alone, 24 But [they were written] for our sakes too. [Righteousness, standing acceptable to God] will be granted and credited to us also who believe in (trust in, adhere to, and rely on) God, Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God].
If Abraham was declared righteous by the One, True God of the Bible simply by believing, trusting in and relying on the promises of God, how much more we who have received the glorious New Birth after Jesus BECAME sin with OUR sin! HE gave us the right to BECOME the righteousness of God - IN HIM! In the same way that Jesus became sin, I became righteous! It was NOT by me never sinning again (impossible while we are in this flesh), but by JESUS taking my sin nature from me through His death, burial and RESURRECTION! JESUS defeated the devil and gave me the right to CHOOSE to receive Him (JESUS) as my Lord and Savior, allowing Holy Spirit to make me a completely new creation with a reborn spirit made in His image, and, as an additional weapon against the enemy, He gave me the right to simply acknowledge sin when I make mistakes and receive the forgiveness that is ever present and ALWAYS available to me as a born again believer! 1 John 1:6-9:
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
AMEN! Do you see that since we receive His righteous nature by faith in all that He has done, rather than by our keeping the law (impossible), then we maintain that righteous nature in the same way! BY FAITH! NOT by never sinning! It would be ridiculous to believe that this New Birth, not earned but freely given, must be received by faith but must be kept by never sinning! That would make the God of the Bible double-minded and that He most certainly is not! Yes, the New Birth SEEMS too good to be true, but that is because our God is an AWESOME God! Let's stop allowing people to bring God down to an earthly level and simply believe that He meant every Word! Trust the Word of God rather than the imaginations, ruminations and limited thinking of other people. DARE to BELIEVE. DARE to RECEIVE. Then, DARE to SHARE the Gospel with everyone! Thank YOU, JESUS!
