Psalm 127:1-2 both include the word "vain":
1 Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil—for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep.
"Vain" here is the Hebrew word "shav`", which means: falsity, uselessness, emptiness, nothingness, worthlessness. In other words, there is absolutely no point in doing something that God is not in! It may APPEAR to be successful, but it will ultimately fail and fade away! Verse 1 is speaking of proceeding with plans that are not of God and verse 2 speaks of trying to go forth in our own power and effort, rather than relying on the wisdom and power of God in order to succeed. HE desires our success even more than we do! That is why He said THIS in 3 John 2:
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. KJV
Then to show us HOW, He gave us THIS in Joshua 1:8:
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. AMP
Never doubt that the God of the Bible ALWAYS desires your good! BUT, we can NEVER do this in our own natural, human strength! We MUST rely on the indwelling and infilling presence of the One, True, Most High, Living, Almighty God of the Bible! HIS Spirit IN us provides everything we need to succeed! Begin today to spend more time in HIS presence than in the presence of any other person!
