2 Corinthians 6:14 is NOT just a good suggestion for born again believers!
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
This isn't JUST a good idea, it is vital for our success, and the fulfillment of our individual ministry and calling. The phrase "unequally yoked" is the Greek word "heterozugeo", which means: to yoke up differently (as with an ox and a donkey); to associate discordantly; to be tied together with "another of a different sort"; when Christians fail to maintain their distinction from unbelievers.
Some think that this just refers to marriage, but it includes every area of our lives! When you realize that, as a born again believer, your spirit man is ALIVE unto God, with the Spirit of God living IN you, and that the unbeliever's spirit is dead because of the sin nature that every person born on the earth has UNTIL they receive Jesus as Lord and personal Savior, then you will begin to SEE and UNDERSTAND why we cannot have true fellowship with them! We have so many promises under our New and better Covenant with Him that do NOT pertain to unbelievers. They do NOT qualify for ANY of the promises of God EXCEPT the promise of the Savior (John 3:16). The Amplified Bible puts 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 this way:
14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers [do not make mismated alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial [the devil]? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 17 So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor,
We are to take the Gospel to the unbelievers, NOT to put trust and confidence in them. Don't hate them or treat them in a hateful way, and DO share the Gospel with them, but do NOT get any closer than that with them! You will open the door to many other problems in your life if you do. GOD said it, so don't argue with it. JUST DO IT! AMEN! Here is Hillsong Young and Free with "Alive" because we ARE!
Shalom in Him!
