Shalom,

Proverbs 2:1-5 says this:

1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. KJV

"Receive" here is the Hebrew word "laqach", which means: to take; to get; to fetch; to lay hold of; to seize; to acquire; to snatch. Do you see how aggressive this is? We CANNOT simply sit and wait for the Word to take us, we must take it! "Hide" is the Hebrew word "tsaphan", which means: to treasure; to store up. "Incline" is the Hebrew word "qashab", which means: to be attentive; to hearken; to listen. To "apply" is the Hebrew word "natah", which means: to stretch out; to extend. Are you getting the picture here that in order to really come to know and and understand the Word of God so that you can obtain wisdom, it is going to take an aggressive effort on your part? Let's look at these verses from the Amplified Bible:

1 MY SON, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you, 2 Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly Wisdom and inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding [applying all your powers to the quest for it]; 3 Yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek [Wisdom] as for silver and search for skillful and godly Wisdom as for hidden treasures, 5 Then you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of [our omniscient] God. AMP

Why is this so important? Read the rest of this Proverb! The LORD (Jehovah - the Covenant Name of God) is the One Who gives us the wisdom, hiding it within His Word so that only the truly diligent will find it! Our diligence where the Word of God is concerned reveals the TRUE extent of our love for Him! IF you love someone, you want to know more about them! As you get to know Jesus, you will also begin to understand the power that is in you because YOU are IN HIM (Philippians 3:10 AMP). Let's start our New Year commitment right now by choosing to put study of the Word as our most important priority! THAT is delighting in Him, and we KNOW what the rewards are for that! Psalm 37:4:

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. KJV

AMEN! He give us desires so that He can fulfill them! What a GREAT God we have! I will be sharing Christmas songs on the blog for awhile now. Here is Hillsong with one of my favorites: "We Have A Saviour".

Shalom in Him!
