In Acts 15 today we read how some of the born again Jews who had been Pharisees were trying to force the born again Gentile believers to be circumcised. The solution that the Apostles came up with, after much discussion, was that they should NOT be forced to be circumcised, but that they SHOULD do these other things. My thought for YOU to meditate on and decide for yourself is this: Do YOU believe that this was a Holy Spirit given instruction? Remember, with everything you hear you MUST ask yourself: Who said it? In verses 25-29 we see the letter that the apostles, elders and the church at Jerusalem came up with to send to the Gentile believers.
25 It has been resolved by us in assembly to select men and send them [as messengers] to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 Men who have hazarded their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 So we have sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will bring you the same message by word of mouth. 28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to lay upon you any greater burden than these indispensable requirements: 29 That you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from [tasting] blood and from [eating the meat of animals] that have been strangled and from sexual impurity. If you keep yourselves from these things, you will do well. Farewell [be strong]!
In verse 28 THEY said: "..it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us...". Does that mean that the Holy Spirit instructed them to say this? It does NOT say so! Nowhere in this instance do we read that the Holy Spirit said this to them! To me, even though these may be good things to follow, it cannot be from God! NOTHING is required to be saved except to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and to confess Him as your Lord and Savior! Jesus said THIS in Matthew 22:37-40:
37 And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). 38 This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. [Lev 19:18.] 40 These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets. AMP
Shalom in Him!
