Today we are reading 1 John 4 in our Spoken Word Bible Reading Plan. We move right on from what we looked at yesterday! Verses 18-19:
18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection]. 19 We love Him, because He first loved us.
Loving God FIRST, as our FIRST LOVE, is essential for being able to love others! We do that by spending time in intimate fellowship with Him, just as we would with anyone that we love. Spending time meditating on all that He has already done for us, along with all that He has promised that He will do, will establish and maintain a thankful and very grateful heart.
