This was a direct quotation of Psalm 22:1! Did you know that, other than Mark's account of the same in Mark 11:34, this is the ONLY time that we hear Jesus address God the Father as God? He always called Him "Father" before this moment! What changed? Look at 2 Corinthians 5:21:
21 For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. KJV
Our sinless Jesus was MADE sin with OUR sin, so that all who will receive Him can be MADE the righteousness of God! Look at Romans 6:23:
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV
He suffered separation from the Father, which is what death really is! Because He was without His own sin, the death sentence could NOT stick! HALLELUJAH! Because HE identified with us in our sin, WE can identify with HIS life! Eternal LIFE! Do you see why THIS is the most important message that we have to give in this life?
